a. Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) hardware, and software systems
presently in place in supported community.
b. Knowledge of mainframe hardware and operating software and personal computers
software.
c. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, and Excel.

Addressing/Subnetting, and LAN technologies
l. Experience with SAN/NAS storage; emphasis on EMC and Cisco Nexus products
m. 5+ Years’ Experience working in Cisco Network environment
n. This position is designated as sensitive, non‐critical IT‐II for Information Technology
purposes. Incumbent is required to have and maintain a favorably adjudicated NACI
or higher investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
a. Military IT infrastructure experience in engineering, maintenance, operation,
administration, and defense a plus.
b. This position may be designated as sensitive critical IT‐I for Information Technology
purposes. Incumbent is preferred to have and maintain a favorably adjudicated SSBI
within the last 5 years.
Task(s): Reviews and analyzes all information technology regulations, guidelines, polices in
order to inform and advise Information Manager, NDC and other Departments
within the NDC of current requirements and impending changes.
b. Advises as to the most practical and cost‐effective method to achieve desired
results.
c. Analyzes current operations and systems in order to improve system performance.
d. Develops technical specifications and acquisition documents and plans budget
resource requirement, training, and system implementation.
e. Maintains complete configuration, via automated database, of current automation
and communication capabilities of NDC.
f. Evaluates network software, hardware, and communications link, specification and
installation.
g. Ensures appropriate system hardware maintenance, system file backup, system
mass storage utilization, and system hardware, software, and data security.
h. Initiates corrective actions to resolve noncompliance issues.
i. Plans for and installs original or new releases of existing software for network
management purposes.
j. Plans for and installs hardware additions and/or upgrades.
k. Works with Information Management Department (IMD) experts to improve
existing Department automated systems and security.
l. Prepares general and specific systems specifications for automation and
communication resources.
m. Works independently, performing comprehensive studies of various information
technology systems for the purpose of (1) ensuring current architecture is meeting
DoN and NDC requirements and (2) proposing new, or changes to, integrated
applications which support the needs of management and meet the overall
requirements NDC.
n. Performs staff studies to recommend organizational improvements, which could be
accomplished with automation, and recommends alternative courses of action,
when warranted.
o. Maintains liaison with contracting officials during contract negotiations and
monitors installation of new equipment, software, and information technology
security.
p. Defines requirement for communication resources and equipment to support
network capabilities.
q. Researches compatibility between computer hardware, software, network and
security.
r. Serves as the Network Operations Subject Matter Expert in all matters pertinent to
automation and system improvements.
s. Stays abreast of new developments in equipment and applications by maintaining
contact and attending weekly meetings with IMD, reading professional publications, visiting manufacturers, and attending equipment demonstrations, seminars and
conferences.
t. Manages all facets of computer systems, to include (1) recommending purchase of
equipment, (2) recommending purchase and distributing automation and
communications resources, (3) overseeing installation of new hardware and
software.
u. Reviews and make recommendations concerning acquisition of new equipment,
software, special devices, and equipment modifications.
v. Serves as the point of contact for all matters regarding day‐to‐day hardware and
software problems and questions. This includes, but is not limited to, workstations,
workstation components, LAN, VPN, WAN, internet connections, and specific
programs unique to NDC. For hardware and software problems beyond the
incumbent’s expertise, the incumbent notifies the appropriate NDC IM employee for
their resolution.
w. Incumbent identifies the need for user training for information technology products.
x. Log of changes made to Networking switch configuration.
