The Systems Specialist ensures the stability, reliability, and growth of city’s IT infrastructure using robust troubleshooting and problem solving. Troubleshoots and resolves user or systems issues specifically with the Physical and Virtual Server and Storage Environment, Microsoft Server network products, related peripherals and applications, and issues involving email and active directory.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

+ Supports data center to desktop operations of the City. Provides customer service, case handling, change control and systems administration.

+ Plans and implements Information Technology projects as directed by Information Technology management. Researches potential solutions and vendors, determines internal and external requirements.

+ Evaluates vendors, products, pricing and solutions. Develops test procedures and metrics for new systems success. Develops training materials to directly train staff.

+ Ensures secure and resilient operations for the City technology operating environment. Implements and maintains system security and user access control. Maintains and supports all City approved network devices.

+ Troubleshoots server, storage area networks and Information Technology infrastructure. Deploys and maintains physical/virtual applications, servers, desktops and related infrastructure.

+ Achieves maximum uptime, solutions availability, user-side performance, disaster recovery and integration. Defines and monitors performance metrics to identify and correct deficiencies.

+ Performs related work as required.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Preferred Entrance Qualifications

Education and Experience

+ Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Qualitative Systems or a related field

+ At least five (5) years of related work experience working as Server/Systems Administrator

+ Three (3) to five (5) years experience VMware.

+ Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

+ Windows Networking technologies

+ Client server applications, connectivity, and authentication. Knowledge and ability to deploy applications in a high priority environment

+ CJIS requirements, procedures and connectivity

+ Police dispatch call taking, police dispatching, police report writing and report classification

+ CTREE Database support, optimization, schema and reporting

+ 7 layers of OSI model

+ Physical security and access control to electronic systems

Skill in:

Vacation: Full time positions accrue 88 hours of vacation leave per year for the first 3 years of service; accruals increase with years of service.

Sick Leave: Full time positions accrue 96 hours of sick leave/year.

Holidays: Full time positions (minimum 40 hours per week) accrue 9 paid holidays per year. Holidays include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Health Insurance: Positions with a minimum of 40 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits. Paid employee life insurance, AD&D, short and long-term disability benefits for full time positions.

Retirement Benefits: Positions with a minimum of 40 hours per week are eligible for are provided retirement Benefits through ASRS and PSPRS. Part-Time positions that work 20 hours or more in a 20 week period are eligible for ASRS.
